The 7º National Meeting of the Brazilian Network of Participative Budgeting will happen during the III FALP in Canoas, Brazil

On June 10th and 11th Canoas will host the 7ºI National Meeting of the Brazilian Network of Participative Budgeting. The meeting is part of the parallel activities of the III World Forum of Peripheral Local Authorities – FALP, on June 11th, 12th and 13th. The event will happen at the Unilassalle (Victor Barreto Avenue, 2288) and assemble cities which practice and articulate popular participation in governance.

Guidelines

During the meeting, there will be a space to reflection about the methodological diversity of participative budgeting, the strengthening and the experience exchange between cities and States. There will also be an election that will chose the new city which is going to coordinate the National Network of Participative Budgeting and, finally a methodology for management training of participation will be presented.

Canoas Reference

The city is part of the organization and reference in the participation system performance, with 11 instruments, which guarantee citizens from Canoas the dialogue with government: Participative Budgeting, City Congress, Multiyear Participatory Plan, Plenary Services, City Hall in Street, Mayor at the station, Public Hearings, Economic and Social Councils, House of Council, Social Networks and Ágora Virtual.

Network

The Brazilian Network of Participative Budgeting is coordinated by the Guarulhos City Hall (São Paulo), formed by 62 cities which invest in popular participation. Besides promoting meetings to discuss participatory democracy it aims to strength public transparent administration with active citizen participation, strengthening experiences, promoting studies on actions that have already been experienced.
