5th UCLG Congress in Bogotá: Report on the key decisions of the Governing Bodies

Following the 5th UCLG Congress and World Summit of Local and Regional Leaders held in Bogotá, Colombia, on 12‑15 October, we are pleased to enclose the Report on Key Decisionstaken by the Governing Bodies on this occasion. Detailed reports will be presented to the relevant bodies for adoption during their next meetings.

We thank all members for their active participation and insightful contributions during the meetings.

The Bogotá programme included 156 sessions with around 300 speakers. Up to now, we have received very positive feedback on the Summit and we hope that you and your delegation also found it an inspiring, innovative and productive event. With over 3,500 delegates from local, regional and national governments, the private sector, civil society, academia and the international community from over 110 countries, we can hope it was a true gateway to the global local and regional government world.

On an institutional level, the Bogotá Congress was a key moment for our organization that saw the election of a new leadership for the 2016-2019 mandate. Attached you will find a letter from new UCLG President Parks Tau.

The Congress also saw the definition of the Bogotá Commitment and Action Agenda, and the Recommendations of the Second World Assembly of Local and Regional Governments (available via the links below), which served as important inputs to the Habitat III Conference in Quito and which will guide our work throughout 2017.

We look forward to building on this positive experience and working towards the implementation of new initiatives that will contribute to underpinning local governments’ capacity around the world to respond to critical development issues.

We further take this opportunity to remind you to take 10 minutes to answer the survey on UCLG’s priorities.
